Are these scratchproof?

No. While durable, nothing is scratch-proof. It's a screen protector, not a force field.

Why should I buy this?

Most scanners are $500-$700, so springing a few extra bucks to protect the screen from scratches seems like a slam dunk of an idea.

Edge problems
The screen protectors I received would not adhere at the edges. The process used to cut the material deforms the edges, this prevents the plastic from laying flat on the screen. The result is an edge margin of approximately 1/8" on all four sides that appears as a continuous "bubble". No amount of smoothing will fix it. All three screen protectors were made the same way, and all are unusable. Disappointing. If you are looking for a screen protector that is invisible after applying, you won't find it here.

I would recommend changing the manufacturing process, or using thinner material. The plastic is too thick, much thicker than other screen protectors I have used.
